Poppy Day 2010

There were a number of collections around the area this year for Remembrance Day and the Royal British Legion Poppy appeal. Dave Salisbury arranged three weekends at Forton Services on the M6 to collect for the appeal. A few vehicles turned up to help “decorate” the collecting area, though to John Le Page’s cost, he fell foul of the parking restrictions and was given a ticket for exceeding the 2hr parking limit. The manager has now revoked the fees that were paid. Thanks from Dave Salisbury to everyone who helped over the weekends.

Kendal saw Rupert Fox, Martin Russell, John Ward, Stephen Heaton, and Roger Preston gathering at the Kendal War Memorial with 6 other collectors within a few hundred yards of them. Despite that they managed to raise a creditable £217.

Kirkland Village Hall on Remembrance Sunday was the venue for the Fylde Country Life Preservation Society crank down meeting, to which the MVT regularly goes to hold a memorial service. This year BBC Radio Lancashire was present, broadcasting a live gardening show. Dick Newbould read a memorial verse at 11:00, and this was then featured on the radio news each hour through the day. The radio team captured interviews with many of those present. The sudden downpour right on the hour didn’t dampen spirits, and those that got wet soon warmed up with pie and peas, a regular at this event.

Total amount raised by our members at various events and specific collection points was approx £5,500.
